On April 17th the Queen dropped her anticipated documentary “Homecoming” on Netflix. This two-hour documentary covered her six-month journey that led up to her long-awaited Coachella performance in 2018.

Beyoncé took her fans behind the scenes of her year long journey of preparing for Coachella after giving birth to twin babies she displayed her daily workout routines, diets and struggles of being a full time mother and entertainer , her fans were able to see the hard work and dedication it took to put on an awe-inspiring show for “The Culture”.

Her performance was aimed to celebrate the importance of an Historically Black College and Universities by incorporating Marching Bands, Greek Steppers and African dance moves. Throughout her documentary she expressed her deep love she had visiting HBCU campuses as a child and how she admired the history behind the schools and how important it is to attend one.

To hear her band, dancers and background singers speak on their experience of being an HBCU Alum sparked numerous conversations during HBCU Springcoming Weekend, which is a festival held in Harlem, NY in the month of April that brings together thousands of HBCU grads in the tri-state area.

The talk of the weekend in majority of the conversations taking place were Beyonce’s Homecoming documentary and how it brings awareness to all HBCU’s. The real question most people had was, will this documentary help inspire more youth to keep the history alive by attending HBCU’s in the future.

Over the year’s celebrities have come together and joined arms to help raise funding for HBCU’s that were struggling due to lack of funding because they are a private insinuation. Over the past few months it’s been recorded that smaller HBCU’s enrollment rates are dropping and funds are being taking away because of the low numbers. What type of funding can be brought into these institutions to reassure the doors will remain open.

How can the Beyonce Homecoming documentary bring in more funding, help with enrollment while making sure her fans enjoy great music?

HBCU’s experiences and finances should be able to be tied together by creating fundraisers, social events and a great homecoming experience!

It’s important the world knows the importance of our illustrious Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Solo cups, Greek Plots, Football Games, melodic sounds of the march bands, swag surging and laughter is the cultural of all HBCU’s. It’s the cultural!!
