In today’s society social media run everything from business to a form of advertisement and creating a lot of entrepreneurs.
Lisa first started her journey as a social media manager two years ago when an organization posted on their Instagram story that they were looking for someone to manage their page because their schedule doesn’t allow them to do so.
Her job requires her to develop content around topics related to HBCU’s and black excellence.
Most people think social media managers just post videos and pictures, but they don’t understand the data and research skill that come along with the position.
Lisa makes sure she creates content and has to post at least three-four times a week especially when their event is approaching.
It’s important to make sure you keep up with the social media impressions and make sure the analytics is monitored carefully.
Most managers use applications such as hootsuite, Buffer, and SocialFlow just to name a few, these apps help mangers monitor the presence of their audience.
As businesses start to advertise on numerous social media outlets it’s important that they actively engaged with their customers via their social media pages in order to build their audience.
“When I first heard of the position, I had second thoughts about applying for the role because it was non-paid and I wasn’t sure if I could fulfill their needs, but here I am two years later having a blast and gaining more experience said Lisa.
Lisa’s wants to be able to manage someone business page full time and get more into the research data part of being a social media manger and eventually become a social media data analyst.
It should be a requirement for mangers to have a certain lev el of education in order to hold the position.
“The more social media we have, the more we think we're connecting, yet we are really disconnecting from each other.” JR
