Lauren Grant and George Twopointoh created HBCU Springcoming because there were no events in the New York Tri-state area focused towards HBCU Professionals. HBCU Springcoming first took place in 2014 in Riverside park, in Harlem, NY. HBCU Springcoming is designed for HBCU Alumni to celebrate homecoming in the spring, engage in social networking activities throughout an entire weekend.
This year the festival will celebrate their fifth-year anniversary in the next three days, this year the festival will begin on Wednesday evening starting off with an event entitled Thrive with Purpose which will be sponsored by the Black Excellence department at Uniliever.
\ “This will be out first time actually having an event during the middle of the week and we are very excited because the event sold out within 24-hours” said Lauren.
On Thursday the organization will host its first “A Toast to The Living Gallery” that will honor five HBCU Grads who are making an impact on the community, this event will be held in a private location.
On Friday and Saturday, they will host their annual events, Innovation Lab at Twitter, Happy Hour, homecoming yard party in Harlem at Riverside State park. On Sunday
they will end the weekend with church service where they will give away four scholarships and have a grand finale with brunch sponsored by HavPlenty Brunch.
“We have a few surprises for our attendees and we pray they will enjoy it “ said Shenika, a member of the host committee.
Every year the event brings in over 10,000 alumni with hopes of the festival growing larger by its tenth year.” Overall its just a great time to fellowship and enjoy life “Denise, Winston Salem State University Alum, 2004.
