FPCS Teacher Of The Year Takes over Washington DC Marriott Marquee.

Teacher of the year at friendship public charter school is an event that held every year in March. The purpose of this event is to recognize high performing teachers across the eight different campuses in the District of Columbia.

The mission of Friendship Public Charter School is to provide a world-class education that motivates students to achieve high academic standards, enjoy learning, and develop as ethical, literate, well-rounded and self-sufficient citizens who contribute actively to their communities.

During the event they honored eight teachers. Each teacher has a introduction video that featured interviews principals, parents, student and staff where they they spoke about the phenomenal job each candidate has done in and out of the classroom from an academic side as well as building a personal relationship amongst their parents and scholars.

This was the 11th annual TOY event, it was held at the Marriott Marques in Washington, DC.

Friendship PCS provides strong leadership support starting with the CEO and it trickles down to the schools. Friendship PCS is a model organization to a lot of public scholar across the district as well as in the United States.

Brandon Buffin of friendship Southeast was a candidate this year, he currently serves as the third mark teacher and math chair for grades K-6. “It’s a pleasure to be a candidate for this year teach of the year, it’s a bit overwhelming I just say”.

This event is hosted by Roland Martin, well known TV personality and former CNN Correspondent. He started his speech off by thanking the wonderful staff and CEO of the organization and mentions how he speaks highly of Friendship Public Schools when he is on his school choice and school reform tour.

Friendship is one of the District of Columbia's largest and highest-performing public charter school networks, with 12 schools serving over 4,200 students.

Overall this event helps keep teachers and staff motivated, intrigued and makes their work environment feel like a family. If schools had this same vision, they could eliminate their high turnover rate.
